Konstantin Khabenskiy is appointed the Artistic Director  of the Moscow Art Theater named after A.P. Chekhov

Konstantin Khabenskiy has been appointed the Artistic Director  of the Moscow Art Theater named after A.P. Chekhov instead Sergei Zhenovach. As it became known  from the message of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation Sergey Zhenovach resigns from the post of Artistic Director of the Moscow Art Theater named after A.P. Chekhov at his own request. In this position, he was replaced by the actor of the Moscow Art Theater, director of theater and cinema, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Konstantin Khabenskiy.

“We respect the decision of Sergei  and thank him for the work done. He accepted the Moscow Art Theater named after A.P. Chekhov in a difficult period and in his activities as Artistic Director was guided by the high ideals of creativity laid down by his predecessors, — noted in the Ministry of Culture of Russia. “Sergei  will continue to lead the Studio of Theater Arts and thus will bring many more useful things to the development of the national theater”.

Konstantin  Khabenskiy made his debut on the stage of the Art Theater in 2002, in 2003 he joined the troupe of the Moscow Art Theater named after A.P. Chekhov.

The Ministry of Culture noted that the new leadership will have to continue developing the rich traditions of the Moscow Art Theater and offer the viewer new creative projects: “We are sure that Konstantin  has the necessary qualities and authority to unite the troupe around him and bring the theater to a new level. He has been working at the Moscow Art Theater named after A.P. Chekhov for many years, is well known to the team and knows the situation in the institution from the inside. Thanks to this, he will be able to quickly join the work in a new position. «

Dear Moscow Art Theater!

Today I was offered to head our theater. I love the Art Theater, I value it and therefore agreed. I hope that we all have a lot of interesting work ahead of us. I want to say thank you to Sergei  Zhenovach for taking over the leadership of our theater in a difficult time for all of us. I wish him success and health! And I want to wish all of us to find our breath and our audience.»
